ABOUT ME

Hi, I’ve been riding since I was about 15, so I guess that gives me about 21 years of experience. That’s not exactly right since I took a long layoff between my last bike and this one. Being an engineer and a rider gives me an appreciation for riding beyond the wind in my hair and the scenery all around. The more I learn about the machines, the more impressed I become. But more on that later. Anyway, thanks for looking, and I hope to see you out there! slh

12/21/06 - Adult Snow Day

I don't know, but it seems that when I was a kid, snow days were more fun. Even if you didn't go out to play, a snow day was a great . The whole business of a snow day seems different now. Instead of a day where I don't have to be anywhere, and I ha ... Read more

12/09/06 - Introduction

Hello As this is my first foray into web logging, and as BMW has been kind enough to give me some server space, I should probably introduce myself. !http://images5.fotopic.net/?iid=yk6up9&outx=800&quality=70! This is a photo from last summer of my ... Read more

05/07/08 - Fork Springs, Heavier Oil

I recently put a pair of Progressive fork springs into my airhead and noticed much more deliberate cornering and better braking with less front-end dive.  I still have some compression, and bumps are absorbed beautifully, but the front end doesn't wallow whenever it's loaded.

Over on the MOA forum www.bmwmoa.org/forum, in the Airheads discussion, you can find a lot of discussion about suspension upgrades.

Hope this helps, and that you have a good season.

05/20/07 - Re: Welcome to the Monkey House

Can you consider it this way?  When admonished that motorcycles are dangerous, can the reply be a flat "no"?  Assuming that the motorcyle isn't badly maintained, poorly assembled or modified, etc. a motorcycle is not inherently dangerous.  However it is not inherently safe either.

The bike does not have crumple zones, roll cages, or side-curtain airbags.  It does have speed, agility, and practically zero blind spots.  The act of riding re...

The ol' CB 750 would be the one I miss... Vetta fairing and all.  But it's not the bike I miss as much as the summer I rode it.  It was a time of careless (almost reckless) freedom before appointments and mortgage and responsibilities.  It was the summer of camping for concert tix and camping by the lake.  For me, the memory of that bike is the key to the memory of that summer on the American prairie.

I don't think that implies, however, that the...
