GOLDEN GATE LOOP 1

Ride description (just the facts)

Leave Denver via I-70 West. Exit in Idaho Springs and work your way to “Oh My God Road.” Work your way to Central City/Blackhawk. Turn north on State 119 to Golden Gate State Park. Turn onto Golden Gate Canyon Road and ride southeast through the park. Go east until you reach Golden. Return to Denver.

Ride Impressions:

It was a nice, soft September morning.

Apr 20, 2007 - GG Loop w/a Twist

Hey Swen, Thanks for suggesting the Golden Gate Rd -- looks like fun. I'm going to try it this week-end, but instead of heading out on I-70, I'm going to take GG Canyon Rd. West out of Golden, then when I hit 119 I'm going north to Nederland, then back east on 72 to 93. I will let you know how it goes. BTW, is there any riding allowed in the park?

Swen, That Golden Gate Canyon Rd. is a dandy -- lots of fun, beautiful scenery -- even on a cloudy day, as when I headed up there. If you take 119 to 72 you're almost to Ned, a good place to take a break and have a coffee or something. 72 is also a fun ride, with more great scenery. Your options expand from there to continue on to Estes Park, or Boulder, or back to Golden. Lots of potential right up close to home. Nice! Regards, Matt
